May - Earth pigments for printmaking - 1 day workshop

£95.00

Processing Earth Pigments for Printmaking with Nichola Goff

Join us for a one-day workshop where you’ll discover the fascinating process of grinding, sieving, and mulling raw ochre pigments to create your own watercolour paints and etching inks for printmaking.

Ochre, a naturally occurring pigment found in earth rich in ferric oxide, is abundant in areas like the Forest of Dean. Artist and printmaker Nichola Goff, who has been collecting and using these pigments in her own work, will guide you through the process.

You’ll learn how to turn raw earth pigment into a fine powder, and use it to create rich, vibrant paints and inks in shades ranging from yellow and red to purple and umber. Nichola will also introduce you to monoprint techniques, allowing you to experiment with these earth pigments as unique printing inks.

By the end of the day, you’ll take home a small set of earth-coloured watercolour paints, a tube of specially made etching ink, and a collection of your own hand-made monoprints.

This workshop is perfect for nature lovers, creatives, printmakers and anyone eager to explore the connection between the natural world and their art. All materials are provided—although a notebook may be useful. Bring your curiosity and dress for an inky studio. Join us for a hands-on exploration of nature’s pigments and their potential in art and printmaking.
